Bad days, miracles, and TIMBUCTOO
Howdy yall! Welcome back to my crazy shenanigans, how are things going? Sorry it’s been a hot minute since you have heard from me. My life has been super crazy busy the past few weeks. But here is the rundown of the past 2 weeks.
So on Tuesday which would have been March 4th, I am going to be straight honest with you. This day was the hardest day of my mission, it was hard mentally. I often try to be a man and not let things get to me, but that day was hard and here is why it was so hard. So we had a lesson with Sheri who was on date to be baptized on the 8th. So we brought a member with us, and we did the lesson. We just went over the baptism interview questions and the laws and commandments. Super simple lesson, we got out of the lesson. And the member said “Elders, we need to chat”. I was okay like what's up? He said “Elders! That was terrible, that was the worst lesson I have ever heard, and I have heard lots of lessons!”. “Job well done Elder Bennett, you suck as a missionary.” I thought to myself, the problem is that we taught it simple because that is the best way Sheri learns. So that was a hard WHACK! And he was mad at us for the way the interview questions are, and we are like bro, that is what we are asked to ask people in order for them to be baptized. So we left the lesson and went home and I drank a pepsi and said a super heartfelt prayer because the devil was really working on me. We then went on to the rest of our day. We had a service cancel, so we made a whole bunch of contacts. While doing those contacts, I had a strong impression to go visit a guy named BOB! So Bob lives in a different ward, but he was gonna baptize Sheri on Saturday. So I called Bob and asked if we could come over! He said absolutely, and so we went over and hung out with him for 2 hours. Now before you point fingers and say that we were bumming it, we were not bumming it. We were talking about how the baptism was gonna go. And there was something different about BOB, I asked him “Bob, there is something special about you. What makes you special?” He was kind of shocked that I asked him. He said “Elder Bennett, there is something special about you as well.” I was shocked because earlier that day I felt like a crappy missionary. He then said I am a song writer and I wrote a song a few years ago. And I feel like the lyrics could really help you out. And the lyrics were what I needed to hear, and mind you….I didn’t tell him about what happened earlier. So anywho, we left his house and went to dinner. After dinner we went to the Ruiz Family’s house. And as soon as we walked into their house, I immediately knew something was wrong. After some talking and watching arguments go down, we found out that they are getting divorced. And that was tough for me to hear, I love that family with all my heart. But since my parents got divorced, while I have been out, I have been able to help people understand that things will be better. So the whole time, as I'm talking with Francisco (the dad) about things. I was holding back tears and trying not to break down. After we left their house, we got to the car. I got in and just cried, probably cried for a solid 15 minutes. Now, I don't typically cry. But today was a rough day. I was struggling so hard. After I pulled myself together we drove home, and as soon as I walked in the front door. My phone rang, it was a guy I found and taught in Roseville when I was with Elder Kahaialii. He called me and I answered and it was 2 other missionaries from Nevada. They said that Jay was in a medical crisis, and the ambulance was coming. Come to find out, he was calling because he wanted to hear a scripture. He didn't think he was going to survive! Well, long story short, he is still living. But long story short, Tuesday was a super rough day. But we survived, just a few tears and lots of pepsi hugs later!
Wow! Sorry that was a lot but it was a rough day, and I don't like faking things and making things seem like they were amazing when they weren't. So on Saturday the 8th, Sheri got baptized! And it was the most spiritual, amazing moment on my mission. For the 1st baptism on my mission, I consider it a win! We baptized her in a swimming pool, and it was super cool and the spirit was super strong. She was so happy and couldn’t stop smiling after she got baptized.
Now for this week! Nothing crazy happened, we just had a busy week with exchanges, temple, zone conference, and finding people. It was a pretty good week. Like on monday we had just the normal pday, that started out with powerwashing the parking lot at the temple. Then just regular things, oh I also made chicken in the crackpot and it was super premium.
On Tuesday, we had exchanges in Marysville. So I was on bikes and it was pretty fun, I definitely don't miss bikes tho. So that's Tuesday in a nutshell.
Wednesday, we had DC and it Rained cats and dogs all day. So that was fun! And of course since it was raining we decided we want to get some cool shots of the rain! So what time we thought about it, the rain had already moved East towards Auburn. So we got in the car and started driving and next thing you know we were driving down a Canyon Road and ended up in Timbuctoo, not even kidding you. We were like where are we? So we looked on a map, and realized you were like 10 minutes west of the Grass Valley area. So we got the shots we needed and drove back to Yuba City. Then we had some amazing dinner with the tarwaters who are a senior missionary couple.
On Thursday, we woke up and decided to go to the temple! So we picked up the Marysville elders and drove to Sacramento, well attempted that is….. in Texas someone in the mission president to let them know that we will be going to sacramento, and he responded and said we couldn't go. We told them that in the resource book that it says to all missionaries are allowed to attend the Sacramento and the Feather River Temple! He was not in the mood to let us go so we had to turn around and come all the way back up to Yuba City to go to the Feather River Temple. But it kind of sucked because we are already almost to Roseville so we had to drive a half hour back North. We finally got to the temple, and it was super fun because I got to see lots of members from Loomis. It was a great time, and then when we were done we drove to canes and got some delicious food and then drove the other elders home. When we got home we edited some videos had some late dinner and went to bed.
On friday, we had some conference. So we drove down to Rocklin and of course how to stop at maverick. We got fuel and went to his own conference on got to see my favorite missionaries! It was actually really fun to see all those missionaries and to get to talk with them about their area and their work. We had a guy there who was the fourth great-grandson of Joseph Smith, so it was super cool for us to hear about Joseph a little bit more and he told us that he was the first guy in the Joseph Smith family to receive the Melchizedek priesthood. After the Zone conference, we took our pictures, then we of course had to go to Maverick again to get drinks. We then drove home, did our studies, and had dinner. Then we went to bed.
On Saturday was just a normal day of missionary work for the sm elders.
And on Sunday, we just had church and regular missionary work with some weekly planning.
Well that's about it for this email! Have an awesome week and chat later. Bye yall!!!
P.s- I would love to get some hand written letters! 😜🤪
